A landscape’s most captivating quality is its’ natural unassuming beauty and graceful magnificence. The distinctive way that sunlight can drape shadows and reveal color, creating an awe inspiring presence, is what originally struck me about the subject. I have no doubt as to why art is so often considered food for the soul. It certainly feeds mine. Landscapes are a wonderfully mysterious subject to explore and it is an honor to continue the tradition.
My current series of paintings is titled “Fond Musings”. These paintings are essentially a continuation of the work I did for my Graduate Thesis “Chasing Spirit and Grace” but they are also a reflection on the work I’ve done in the past. It is a challenging and oddly relaxing task. Some are from photos I took years ago but at the time I didn’t have the ability to properly translate them into a painting, while others are simply revisiting favorite compositions and giving them new life. These current paintings are quickly becoming a meditation on how far I’ve come in life and in my artistic skills as I continue to elaborate on qualities I admire such as brushwork, color, mood, and atmosphere.
Jamilyn Eberhard was born and raised in Ohio. Where she’s from has strongly molded who she is as a person and an artist. Encouraged by family and teachers she began pursuing art early in life, drawn to painting by a love of color. She graduated from Columbus College of Art and Design in 2004 and attained her Masters degree in 2010 at Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Throughout her studies she has diligently pursued Fine Art Painting and minored in Art History at CCAD.
As a landscape painter Jamilyn has become intrigued by the variety of landscapes and local cultures that can be found between America’s shores. The Ohio Valley and the Appalachian Mountains will always hold a special place in her heart; however the wonderfully vast landscape of New Mexico has enchanted her as well. The rich history of the mountain ranges and high desert country has an irresistible wild flavor to them that is fertile ground for any painter. Jamilyn has laid down new roots here in Rio Rancho New Mexico while happily raising a family and truly beginning her art career.
